Meet South Kent School's 10th Head of School Brian D. Sullivan
It is my honor and privilege to serve as the tenth Head of School at South Kent. Since I arrived at the School in December 2021, I realized very quickly what a special place and community we have here on the Hillside. We have always been, and will always be, a community guided by our Trinity of Values – Simplicity of Life, Self-Reliance, and Directness of Purpose – and for 100 years, we’ve been inspired by our Mission to teach, care for, and develop young men into thriving and engaged citizens of the world.
As a Junior in high school, I was offered a life-changing opportunity to attend boarding school and experience firsthand how a prep school education can help you grow as an academic and a person. I came from a family of educators, and after graduating from college and growing a successful career in finance, I felt called to the education field to give back in the way that my family, teachers, and school mentors had done for me. I taught, coached, advised, and served in many different leadership roles within the boarding school industry, and I am thankful to find myself in a role where I, along with my South Kent colleagues, can continue to make an impact on the next generation of learners.
In the next several months, I hope to continue to meet and hear from our community as we travel around the country, celebrating 100 years of South Kent School. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my vision for making South Kent an industry leader in small-school, all-boy education, which includes a forward-thinking education model that combines 21st-century innovation with the School’s longstanding traditions and values. As I begin my tenure, thank you for entrusting me to serve as your next Head of School. I look forward to building on the great work we have already accomplished together and leading South Kent in the next successful chapter of our School's history.

Unsurprisingly for 2022, we had an outbreak of positive cases of COVID in the 48 hours before Prize Day and had to change all of our plans. We condensed three disparate ceremonies into one, under a tent leased 48 hours before the ceremony and in 48-degree weather and 30 mph winds.

Our young men arrived on Wednesday morning and registration was a seamless affair despite near record breaking heat. We officially opened the school year on Wednesday afternoon where I delivered the message, below, to the student body assembled for the first time in the Chapel.

Today, we work to retain the principles, positive traditions, and values that have always buttressed an SKS education, while trying to meet the demands of the rapidly changing world for which we are preparing our boys.

Greetings from what has been a temporarily quiet Hillside, as we spanned the weeks between Prize Day and summer camps. Bruce Carlson and our amazing facilities crew are patching, repairing, cleaning and otherwise preparing for our summer camp rentals and the next school year, and our grounds are truly stunning!
