The South Kent School Hockey Experience
The South Kent School Hockey 15O team allows families who desire AAA level play for their younger students, the ability to do so while attending boarding school. Players receive the highest level coaching, exposure and training available and they play a AAA schedule that is not limited to the traditional 33-game prep schedule.
The 15O program provides a competitive 50-60 game, AAA level schedule consisting of highly recruited showcases, elite tournaments and competitive, independent non-league games across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible to compete for the USA Hockey Tier I national championships, these players regularly receive attention and college commitments from some of the top Division I NCAA schools, along with players being drafted into the USHL.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach
Ryan Bliss
Head Coach 15O Hockey
Ryan Bliss is in his third season coaching with South Kent School, this year leading the 15O team. Originally from Chelmsford, MA, Ryan began playing hockey at three years old and instantly fell in love with the sport. Over time, he realized that his hard work and passion for hockey gave him a great chance to play at the collegiate level. To set himself up for success, Ryan started challenging himself at a young age, which enabled him to receive many accomplishments such as captaining the 2012 USA Youth Olympic team and playing for the National Team Development Program from 2012-2014. This allowed Ryan to have many options to play for a competitive high school team, as he played for Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and ISL power St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire. Due to his success in high school, Ryan took his career to the next level, playing for Cornell from 2014-18. Ryan tallied four goals and 14 assists as a member of the Big Red. He then went on to play for a fifth year at UMass Amherst, helping the team finish as the NCAA Tournament runner-up to Minnesota-Duluth.
In the following year, Ryan joined UMass Amherst’s coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. In 2021, he helped UMass Amherst win the National Championship against St. Cloud, resulting in the fewest losses of a national champion since the 1992-93 University of Maine team. After the season, Ryan arrived at the Hillside where he has coached the 18U team as an assistant before becoming the head coach for the 15O team.
Ryan has deeply enjoyed his time at South Kent, as he looks to develop student athletes on and off the ice and prepare them for post-graduate opportunities. He also has an admiration for the legacy of South Kent hockey, and he aims to continue setting the bar high for student-athletes, maintaining the school’s prestige. In his free time, Ryan likes spending time with his husky Kaia, golfing, and skiing with friends and family.

Coach Bonis was a competitive cyclist and now competes as an open water swimmer, conquering the 2018 Lake Champlain Open Water Race and the 2019 Peaks to Portland open water swim. Whether it is climbing the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountains, swimming across the largest lake in New England, clinging to a rock face, or pushing impressive weight in various directions, Coach Bonis has spent the better part of his life connecting with people through fitness.
Coach Bonis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health and has taught anatomy, physiology and philosophy. He has been mentoring student-athletes both inside and outside the weight room at South Kent School since 2005. The classes he has taught, as well as the training programs he has designed, always take the mind and body connection into account. An excellent motivator, Coach Bonis knows that it takes self-reliance to accomplish anything, “Working out is not always the hardest thing, it’s sometimes just getting to the gym that is the most challenging part.”
