Announcing Brennen McHugh as SKSA Associate Coach

July 20th, 2020

South Kent School is excited and proud to announce the appointment of Brennen McHugh to the position of Associate Coach for South Kent Selects Academy. Coach McHugh has worked for several years at top Division 1 NCAA hockey programs. He started his collegiate career as the video coach at St. Lawrence University and then served as the Director of Hockey Operations at Cornell University and, most recently, on the staff at the University of Massachusetts. This past season he moved on from the college ranks when he became the head coach of the New York City Cyclones 16U team.

Coach McHugh has had the great experience of working with the two reigning Spencer Penrose Award winners (NCAA Division I Coach of the Year) Greg Carvel in 2019 and Mike Schafer, co-winner in 2020. Brennen had this to say about joining the South Kent School Selects Academy staff, "I can't be more excited for the opportunity to join South Kent School. I look forward to working with the staff and all of our student-athletes within the South Kent Selects Academy program to represent South Kent well on and off the ice. Jill and I can't wait to join such a special campus community and get the school year started!"

While split season teams and many other programs are not able to offer a high-level on-ice experience, South Kent School is uniquely positioned to welcome all our families back on August 24th and for our student-athletes to return to training and competition. Guided by state health mandates and regulations, as soon as school starts, our players will begin daily strength and conditioning workouts, skill sessions, team practices, scrimmages and/or our full USA Hockey schedule. We are currently making ice at our private, on campus Admiral James and Sybil Stockdale Arena. Our two full-time athletic trainers, two full-time nurses and school doctor are working closely with our administration and government and health officials to be prepared for all necessary health protocols when school opens.
