    Ryan Ward Joins South Kent Selects Academy Hockey Staff

    South Kent Selects Academy (SKSA) has hired Ryan Ward as Director of Player Personnel and U15 Head Coach for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Ward joins SKSA after spending last season as an Assistant Coach for the St. Louis Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate San Antonio Rampage. Several Rampage players earned promotions to the Stanley Cup- winning St. Louis Blues throughout both the regular season and playoffs. “We are very excited for Ryan to join our coaching staff” said Hockey Director Doug Holewa.  “His experience coaching at all levels and his offensive approach to the game, specifically his work with the power-play, adds great balance to our staff.”

  • Four Alumni Drafted to NHL

    Four Alumni Drafted to NHL

    Four South Kent Selects Academy alumni were recently picked in the 2019 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft. Shane Pinto ’18 was a 2nd round pick, selected 32nd overall by the Ottawa Senators. Zac Jones ’19 was drafted in the 3rd round, 68th pick, by the New York Rangers. Ethan Phillips ’19 was picked by the Detroit Red Wings in round 4 as the 97th pick. Dominic Basse ’19 was a round 6, 167th pick, to the Chicago Blackhawks.

    Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

    The Prize Day ceremony began on Saturday, May 25th, 2019. On that momentous day, South Kent School graduated their senior and PG students for the 95th time in the school’s rich history. Head of School Lawrence A. Smith '73 recognized each graduate from the Class of 2019 by reading a personal narrative of each graduate's time on the Hillside and then giving them each a handshake. The closeness of everyone on campus was palpable in these moments.

    100% of Class of ’19 SKS Soccer Grads Continuing at Collegiate Level

    As the South Kent School Class of 2019 earns their diplomas, all graduating members of the soccer program will be looking forward to continuing their careers as student-athletes at the collegiate level.  For the eleventh consecutive year, every graduating soccer player has an opportunity to play college soccer.  This year, thirteen graduates will move on to be college student-athletes.  South Kent recently held a ceremonial signing event to celebrate the accomplishments of this impressive group.

    Faculty Profile: Award-Winning Artist Cheryl Moore Creates a Space for Inspiration

    Cheryl Moore decided to enter the Kent Art Association juried show in the pastel category for the first time in about 10 years...and she won. This accomplishment is impressive in itself, but add in the fact that when she entered a decade ago she also earned the prize, and it is clear Mrs. Moore has a rare talent. Often introducing herself to parents and visitors in her witty manner, she says, “Hi, I’m Cheryl Moore, and I’m the art department.” This always garners a laugh, but it is simply true; Mrs. Moore has been the backbone of a dynamic, quietly transformational program here since she joined South Kent School in 2008.

    Boston College Honors Patrick Beer with Distinguished Alumni Award

    Patrick Beer, Third Form Dean, Humanities Teacher, and Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor at South Kent School, has received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston College. At a dinner and awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 16th, Patrick was honored by the college as "a graduate who embodies the Jesuit ideals of men and women for others, who pursues the greater good in all things and exemplifies care for the whole person." Former professors and colleagues were in attendance to support, celebrate, and congratulate Patrick.

    U18 Hockey Wins Back-To-Back National Championships!

    They did it! Our U18 hockey team has won back-to-back USA Hockey National Championships with a 3-2 OT victory over North Jersey Avalanche in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The South Kent Selects Academy team, representing the Central Connecticut Youth Hockey Association (CCYHA), came out on top in the tournament among the 16 best Tier I Midget AAA Youth Hockey teams in the country.
