The story of Hector’s journey to South Kent is really the story of the broadening of the New England Prep hockey program as artificial ice spread the sport around the country. The Los Angeles Kings had joined the NHL in 1967, and soon many youth hockey programs such as the California All Stars were formed.
Teams and Traditions: The Evolution of Hockey at SKS (Part 1)

The first rink was on Hatch Pond, just off shore from where the crew docks are now. According to the 1927 SKS yearbook, “about the middle of the first winter, the low rink boards disappeared entirely beneath heaps of snow and ice, and the rink itself was a series of mountain ranges. One painful night was spent in an attempt to mend matters by flooding the rough spots with water obtained through a hole in the ice.”
