SKS PG Jordan Gainey Commits to USC Upstate Spartans
April 26th, 2021
South Kent School (SKS) is extremely excited to share that post graduate Jordan Gainey has made his college commitment to the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans. Featuring heavily in Jordan’s choice to sign with USC Upstate was Coach Dickerson’s very methodical approach to the recruitment process; getting to know Jordan, his game and how he would fit at USC Upstate as both a player and a positive contributor to everything in the community.
SKS Head Basketball Coach Raphael Chillious said, “Upstate is getting an elite level 3pt shooter who also can be utilized as a primary defensive stopper as he takes great pride in being a high-level defender as well. Jordan shot the 3pt shot at nearly a 40% clip this year from the college three as we play the NCAA 3pt line at our level of prep basketball. He was the top scorer on a team that only lost 2 games all season, both to another top prep program in the country. Jordan is also a big time shot maker when the game is on the line as he carried us to victory twice this year with his ability to step up and make big shots when the game is on the line.”
“To me this is huge! I have now reached the next level of basketball, and I’m excited to go there, play, and make an impact,” shared Jordan when asked about how he feels about the commitment. “Coach Chills (Coach Raphael Chillious) has been pushing me since the first moment I got here to get better everyday. He also helped me become a better man. SKS has helped me get through the tough times of the year and come out stronger.”
As a member of the SKS community, Jordan has shown himself to be a young man of high character with great leadership skills both on and off the court. Basketball is in his blood and his commitment to the game and understanding of what it takes to play at the college level in no small part comes from his father, Justin Gainey who is an Assistant Coach at the University of Tennessee. We have no doubt that he will be able to step onto the court right away at USC Upstate, bringing the great qualities as both a player and person. Jordan is a proven winner (won a State Championship in AZ during his senior year of high school) and he won here at SKS at a high level this past season!
