15 College Hockey Recruits, 1 Small CT School

If you were told about a program that is one of the top in the country for college recruits in the USA Hockey U16 and U18 League, you would likely imagine a huge, longstanding organization who has been churning out star athletes for many years. While the longstanding part is certainly true, South Kent School is anything but large.

On February 12, 2015, Ahmed Al Ameri ‘15 began a cultural tradition and created a winning SKS Fair project with a dinner from his home country, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Alumnus Profile: Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy '04 Returns

From New York all the way to Hollywood, he’s known as Bang Bang. Here on the Hillside, however, we call him Keith. Since his days at South Kent School, Keith McCurdy ‘04 has become a professional tattoo artist to celebrities such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Cara Delevingne and more. Recently, he returned to speak to current students about his “Hero’s Journey.” This transformational experience is a vital foundation for the curricula here at South Kent, led by Head of School Andrew Vadnais and inspired by the works of Joseph Campbell.
Florentino '13 & Friars are National Champions

It was an unforgettable night on Saturday, April 11th, for South Kent School alumnus Anthony Florentino '13, who helped his team win the NCAA Division I National Men's Hockey Championship. The Providence Friars won in a thrilling 4-3 finish versus Boston University. It was Florentino who scored Providence's first goal in the final game of the Frozen Four, garnering excitement from fans both in the rink and on social media.

It only takes one person to make a difference around the world. Following the week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and South Kent School’s all-school trip to see the film, Selma, this sentiment is particularly pertinent on the Hillside.
South Kent School's Stockdale Arena Opens

The Admiral James & Sybil Stockdale Arena at South Kent School was abuzz with student-athletes, fans, coaches, teachers, and alumni last week. Following construction of the state-of-the-art ice rink, along with a dedication in October featuring notable speakers such as American diplomat Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, South Kent officially opened the doors to the new facility. “We are neighbors from just down the road and we’re very proud of you,” Kissinger had said at the dedication.

Many notable guests, including American diplomat Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, joined South Kent School to celebrate the dedication of The Admiral James and Sybil Stockdale Ice Arena on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Stockdale sons Sidney ’73, Stanford ’79, and Taylor ’81 all attended South Kent School.
